In mid-2021 The Cat Counsellor was born to help cat owners understand their furry friend's behaviour and wellbeing.
So, just how did I come to be a feline behaviour specialist?
Veterinary Nursing Qualification at Vet Nurse Plus
Completed post-graduate studies in Feline Behaviour with the International Society of Feline Medicine
Registered with the IAABC, PPG, and ISFM.
Here you see me with my childhood bestfriend Monty. Our household was never without a pet, from frogs to horses, we had whatever I could convince my parents to let me bring home (sorry mum and dad).
I started volunteering while studying Veterinary Nursing at our local vet practice which lead me to fostering kittens and there my love for cats continued to grow. Working as a Vet Nurse I encountered many cats who exhibited problematic behaviours both at home and in the clinic as a result of their unique needs not being met. I knew I wanted to change that, but to do so would mean shifting my career focus. At the time and even now there are very few people working exclusively in cat behaviour, let alone in New Zealand.
Going back to university was a big adjustment but two years later I graduated with distinction and set out on my mission to change cat's lives (and their owners) for the better. I am now proudly registered with the Pet Professional Guild, International Society of Feline Medicine and the International Association of Animal Behavioural Consultants.
Auckland is where I currently call home, with my partner, our two rats, a rabbit, a cat, and a dog. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, drinking copious amounts of tea, listening to true crime podcasts, baking and embroidery.
General consultations are a great way to get 1:1 advice about your cat. Common topics include potential behaviour cases, kitten socialization, clicker training, introducing a new family member, enrichment ideas, moving house, and making vet visits less stressful.
Is a major behavioural issue(s) in your cat(s) leaving both you and your cat unhappy? A behavioural assessment allows us an in-depth look into your cat’s behaviours and environment, after which I will create a detailed step by step guide to resolving/mitigating these behaviours.

Our cat freaked out over lock down and decided not to live with us anymore. Molly was great at suggesting ideas to get him back. He is now back with us, settled and happy. A great result!

Molly was really helpful with my former stray cat. We had a Zoom session and she was great with following up after and making sure I had the support I needed too.
